Catching Opportunities with Open Source

Description

Nowadays almost every developer is using from Open Source Software in some way, however just few are actively involved. Releasing Open Source seems to be affordable only to students and others who seem to have too much time on their hands. You can not possibly be deeply involved. Or can you? In this session you will learn how Open Source engagement can be valuable for you and your job and how your employer can greatly benefit as well. See how embracing the Open Source philosophy can increase your knowledge and reputation, how it can help you to save your company time and money, how it can attract new employees as well as get you that exciting job. ..and of course: how Open Source will make you love what you're doing even more.

Conférence donnée lors du Forum 2012, ayant eu lieu les 05 et 06 juin 2012.

Stefan KOOPMANSCHAP

Stefan Koopmanschap is a PHP developer, consultant and trainer. Christian SCHAEFER

I am a member of the PHP community for far over 10 years by now starting with PHP 3 and for over 4 years now I’ve been using the symfony framework. But it’s not only the programming side that I’m interested in. I am also interested in understanding the process of turning an idea into a product and the part of IT within it. The main responsibility of any IT department is to support the business strategy of their companies and to implement business requirements. It is my ambition to help optimising these processes by finding answers to the following challenges. Saving time for innovation by making software reusable and creating repetitive processes Reducing the risk of complexity by setting sensible quality standards Finding synergies with the outside world by incorporating an Open Source strategy and following open standards Since 2005 I work with an international scope supporting development teams all over Europe. Currently I am working for a big publisher with sites all over the world.

This talk was just the best! The last question about the "consequences of a public screw up" was really interesting, it would be good to add this subject to your talk. Cheers.
