AFUP AFUP Day 2025 Baromètre Planète PHP PUFA

Everything you always wanted to know about UTF-8 (but never dared to ask)

Description

picto-en30x30

For any application with even the remotest ambition of international use, the only way to go is to use UTF-8. And even without that ambition, using UTF-8 might still bring you more benefits than you currently realize. Unfortunately most developers at one point or another run into problems implementing UTF-8 and get discouraged. That ends now! In this talk I will cover UTF-8 from the basic linguistics, through client-side aspects to all the steps you need to take to tackle the most common (and some more obscure) issues when using UTF-8 in a database driven web application.

Conférence donnée lors du PHP Tour Lyon 2014, ayant eu lieu les 24 et 25 juin 2014.

So interesting! Too bad you didn't have a one hour and a half slot to finish your slideshow. => So frustrating! Hope you will do it (fully) again at a time/place I can attend

Your conference was the first time I actually got a wee bit the feeling I start to understand encoding / charsets andsoforth. Really a shame we didn't have the time to finish!

A great conference, that every developer should see, so all these WTFs related to encoding could finally go away. Plus Juliette is a very funny and kind person, always available after her presentation.

Must see!
